What is a Blind Cafe Music In The Dark Experience?

The Blind Cafe Music In The Dark Experience is a collaborative pop-up concert series held in the complete pitch dark! It's is a celebration of actively listening and connecting to live music as a community. Collaborating with some of the best established well known music acts, The Blind Cafe brings you an unparalleled live music listening experience. These unique and intimate performances will bridge the gap between artists and their audience as they're empowered to participate in an active music listening experience, in the complete and total pitch dark! Both the artists and the audience will remember what is was like to perform, listen to & experience live music without the distraction of their visual conditioning, social etiquette and their cell phones.

Yes a concert entirely free of cell phones!!!

I actually cried during your song ‘Transcend’ which is not something I would have let myself do, if I knew that people could see me. But knowing that I was invisible, it was much easier to let my emotions flow and that felt SO healthy! It was also nice to end on a higher emotional note with everyone singing and standing together. Our table was all holding hands and swaying too! I walked out of there with such a happy full heart!”
— Katie Maginnis, Seattle
The Blind Cafe is something that gives music freaks a completely new way to enjoy and appreciate live music, kind of the same way that MTVs Unplugged did back in the day… but Concerts in the Dark, makes Unplugged seem like child’s play.

Love & Rainy Days By Rosh - Live in the dark at The Blind Cafe 2010 Featuring Phil Norman, Rosh and Clay Hamilton

It dawned on me that I most likely hadn’t listened to music in the dark like this since I was a young teenager. It was so liberating to allow my mind and ears to focus on instrumentation with no visual input.

— Brian Johnson, The Marquee Live Music Magazine

What happens in the dark at a Music In The Dark Experience?

The Blind Cafe is now opening up it's darkness to invite established artists to perform and experience the magic of a Music In The Dark Experience. We are partnering with NPR's famous E-Town Hall from Boulder, CO and several other organizations in San Francisco, Portland and Austin TX to bring you some of the best bands and artists for music performance unlike any you will ever experience.

The Music In The Dark Experience consists of 3 components...

A Social Dinner Experience In The Dark

First off, what's on the menu? Community... locally sponsored (vegan & gluten-free) friendly food, dark chocolate, good friends, inspiring stories and a music performance in complete darkness! You will break bread with your community in the dark at 6 - 8 person tables. We hire a local professional Chef to design the menu encouraging them to connect with local farms, locals business’s and build relationships in the community. We source, as much as possible, the food we serve from local farms and business’s relying largely on donations from the community.

A live interview in the dark with the artists on stage.

Meet our Darkness Emcee, Brian Johnson, the founder and editor of Colorado's front ranges best Live Music Magazine, The Marquee. Much like our signature event where we discuss blindness with the blind staff, at this event, Brian will interview the featured artists live on stage in total darkness, giving both artists and the audience a chance to discuss and share about their experience listening to music without sight, right there live in the middle of the set, with the room all paying attention.

A Music Performance In The Dark

One of the most emotionally powerful music listening experiences possible.  These unique and intimate performances bridge the gap between the artist and their audience as they're empowered to participate in an active music listening experience, in the complete and total pitch dark! Learn what it was like to experience live music without the distraction of your visual conditioning, social etiquette and cells phones.
